I don’t know why, but these pictures make me laugh so hard. Probably because it’s a pretty close look at my life. Multi-tasking, dog food on the floor, trying to hold a VERY wiggly baby, all while trying to keep my crap together and remain the cool Mom that I always am. 😉 That last part is obviously very much a joke.
ANYWAYS, I am here to shed some knowledge on you about diverting plastic waste from landfill because especially right now during the holidays – there seems to be an excess of it. Am I right? So Hefty® has a really rad program, it’s called the Hefty® EnergyBag® Program. Basically, what it is, is an initiative that collects hard to recycle plastics at curbside and converts them into useful resources. They make it pretty simple for you and have orange bags that are labeled “EnergyBag®” so you can put your hard-to-recycle plastics in that bag and then set it out directly in your recycling bin. I’ll include a little picture of the packaging below so you can see what I am talking about!
With the program you can directly divert more items from the landfill. For example, some items you can put in these bags are things like; hard-to-recycle plastic, foam packaging, cake mix liners, plastic food wrap and more. How it works is the bags are separated at your local recycling facility. Then they are sent to an energy recovery facility where they are converted into valuable resources. It’s actually pretty dang rad if you think about it and takes little to no effort on our end.
So this holiday season, pick some of these up and get in on it! This time of year we have so much waste that it’ll be easy to fill up several of these bags, let’s be honest. To date, the Hefty® EnergyBag® programs have successfully diverted more than 450 tons of plastics from going to the landfill, which I think is pretty incredible.
I’m going to link to their site, here, so you can learn more and get all the details you need.
But Ada County friends, if you live in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Garden City or unincorporated Ada County you can purchase the orange bags at your local Albertsons, Target, and Boise Co-Op locations!
The program is available to all those that have curbside recycling in the following areas; Cobb County, Georgia; Omaha, Nebraska; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Ada County, Idaho.
