canned the other day with my friend Megan and Blake and it actually turned out to be a blast. Watching Blake get involved may have been the highlight of the entire day. I remember my Grandma and my Mom canning like crazy growing up and my Mom still to this day would always make a ton of spaghetti sauce, can it and give it to us to use. Literally I couldn’t tell you the last time that I bought spaghetti sauce. Plus, her sauce is just so much better I don’t ever want to have to buy spaghetti sauce again. HA!
So anyways, she came over a couple of Sundays ago and we all canned together. We made Mixed Berry Jam and it turned out so good that well, honestly I’m not sure I’ll ever buy jam again. This might just turn into a thing…before you know it I’mma be baking and making all the things. I think canning really might be my new thing. I’m already planning canning parties in my head for every few months so me and my girlfriends can stock up on everything. Good idea? I think so.
Anyways, let me tell you a little about this canning experience! One, it was a lot easier than I anticipated. Like I would’ve started canning a while ago had I known it was this easy. I mean, there’s still work to it and I’ve only done spaghetti sauce and Mixed-berry jam now, but those two are doable people! Ball ® also makes it super easy because they literally make all the things you need to can, in addition to the jars. They have the water bath canner to boil the jars in, A jar lifter to grab them out, canning funnel, bubble remover, pectin, literally all the things. SO that made it super helpful. We made our mixed berry jam with strawberries and raspberries and it’s seriously SO good. Then I let Blake use the leftover sauce mixed with some apple juice to make popsicles which she thought was super cool and I earned all the cool Mom points that day. There’s also just something about homemade and we’ve had toast and PB&Js almost every day since. For the fourth we are whipping it out for crepes!
You can see the whole mixed berry jam recipe, here. ANNDD I’m planning our next canning party, complete with a Target run (that’s where the Ball stuff is), lots of dancing, way too much caffeine and a whole lot of fun. Plus, it’s beneficial people – you go home with all the deliciousness!
