Guys I am still in shock that I was in Chicago last week meeting some of the cast from Bad Moms Christmas. WHICH IT COMES OUT TODAY and I highly recommend planning a little girl’s night tonight and seeing it! It’s kind of surreal to think about them being normal people, just livin’ their lives right — but seriously, normal people just livin’ their lives and all super nice and well, hilarious. Chicago was BEAUTIFUL, I stayed at the Peninsula Hotel and that was equally as gorgeous and this Mama felt REAL spoiled. I’m talking, soaked in the giant tub, ate all the pizza and junk food possible and hung out with some pretty incredible ladies. It was seriously so good and I didn’t really realize how badly I needed a little break!
When I got there, I checked into the hotel, immediately ordered flatbread (because food) and then sat by the pool for a bit before the screening that night. The screening was seriously a blast. There were tons of us there, we got super spoiled with some really cute little swag bags and then an ultimate surprise when part of the cast showed up and surprised everyone there! The screaming from all the Moms was insane, it was seriously awesome. Like the next morning Kathryn Hahn was like, “I had no idea that it was going to be that big of a response. That was exciting, you guys.” – SO GOOD.
The next morning was the interview part and great. First we interviewed with Mila, Kristen and Kathryn. Kathryn immediately walked into macaroons and mimosas on the table and was like “OH my god! Macaroons and mimosas!”and immediately all us Mommy bloggers thought she was a hoot. It was super fun to be able to meet these ladies and talk about their roles in Motherhood, as well as the movie, how they relate and what they ultimately hope this movie shows all of us Mamas out there. Kristen Bell said, “It makes me feel so proud because like–” “It’s such an important reminder because like look, this is what I say to all my friends. Do you know how many times I’m here? Once on Earth, one time. So like I want it to be joyful, and happy and exciting. And a good portion of that joy, and happiness and excitement is my kids, and then every now and again you hit capacity, and you’ve got to switch it up, and you’ve got to take a girls night. And thats healthy, and that’s actually healthier than not doing it. And for some reason culturally we’ve decided it is unacceptable to talk about mothers being autonomous women at all, ever, point blank period. Thats what the kids are saying. Did you know that? I just learned that. Point blank period.” I love what she said. Seriously though, my life is my sweet baby girl, MY LIFE. Like I would do anything and everything for her. But the reality is, sometimes you do hit your limit and you just need YOU time, adult interaction. We are all a little hard on ourselves and society shows this unrealistic expectation that anything and everything has to be “perfect” all day, all the time and well – IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE. And honestly, I think this movie showed just that.
One of my favorite moments of the interview though — that I won’t ever forget. Was when someone asked about Kathryn’s scene with Justin Hartley (This is Us — guys he’s in it. Trust me, watch the movie) and I won’t give too much away, but they asked her how many times they had to film that scene and her response was; “Not Enough.” ” Just not enough. Not enough takes, guys. I could–God, but he was–” I’ll let that part just sink in and you can go ahead and start ordering your tickets now. 😉 HA!
Our second interview was with the Moms (of the Moms) in this movie, so we met with Cheryl Hines and Susan Sarandon. It was a really great interview getting their perspective of the movie and just life guys. They’re both equally brilliant. We were all joking with them a few times about how there needs to be a “Bad Grandmas” out next and let me tell you, we’re definitely crossing our fingers. HA! Let’s keep these things going. I actually asked them both the question “If you could tell like the young mom with kids right now, the young working mom with kids, what’s one thing you would tell her?” and their answers were incredible and I want to leave y’all with it because I think we could all use it! Susan said, “
Forgive yourself for not being super perfect. If you’re happy your kid knows that you’re happy, and all the guilt you feel for not being there every second, that your kid will admire you. You’ll be raising kids who have an expectation that you’re more than just a mom. And that’s a really good thing. But it doesn’t matter if your house is messy for the weekend. It doesn’t matter if you’re eating leftovers or ordering pizza. What matters is that they know that you love them and then when you’re there for them you’re really there for them, and you’re happy to be with them. And you know, you’ll have kids then that are much more independent, and boys that really gravitate towards women who 20 are complete women and not completed by them which is really not a good way to start a relationship.” Honestly I kind of teared up when she said that because it was just what I needed to hear. I think we are all a little hard on ourselves and we DO need to forgive ourselves, we need to be okay with the now, letting go and just doing our best. I mean we are all doing just that, our best. Then Cheryl said, “Yes, I’m human, and she sees me as a person, and I see her as a person, and she’s okay to come to me and say I’m having a bad day. Don’t talk to me. I woke up in a bad mood. I’m like I get it. I woke up in a bad mood. Sometimes I’ll tell her that. Like whatever reason I have to have three more cups of coffee before I can even talk to you. And she’s like, I get it. But so I think that’s important to just take a little bit off of yourself and say you’re not going to be perfect….” and it was perfect. Seriously I expected a brilliant answer from both of them, but these hit to the core and like really made me think and remind myself that hey, I’m doing better than I think I am, we all are.
So long story short, the experience was incredible. I met a new friend, April, from Today’s Mama. We had a blast, we shopped, I ate way too much, I met incredible ladies and guys, the movie was HILARIOUS. I kid you not, I am actually going to go see it again with my husband and sister and her husband, it was that good. So make a girl’s night of it, grab tickets below and make to it. I promise you’ll be laughing the entire time — because it’s just real life.
