I wanted to do something different for Halloween this year. We are living with my parents while we build our house and my Mom’s house has such a different feel than ours, that I thought — let’s go all black this year rather than white pumpkins, oranges and you know my typical bright colors. I also wanted to get items that were interchangeable, meaning I could use them for a cute tablescape, but then move them to the front porch when I no longer needed/wanted them on the table! So I hit Lowe’s, gathered all the tiny pumpkins (because I mean, why not), let Blake pick out a few “spooky” things and covered all my bases to make this thing (as you see above in pictures) happen.
I DIYed the pumpkins, which I’ll share how to do that in just a second, it’s super easy! And then I’ve actually made it super easy to shop everything in the pictures that’s from Lowe’s! You just click on the item and it’ll literally take you directly there. Now about the process a little more because I just thought it was fun and holidays are basically my middle name. Not to mention I am literally dreaming of everything that I can do to our new house next year and it has me SO excited. For now though my dear Mom and Dad get to deal with my crazy holiday self. Let’s be real, I learned it somewhere…*cough* Mom *cough*. Set up was fairly easy, the only thing that wasn’t my favorite was the dang cobwebs, they’re just sticky but they totally add to the spooky feel, especially with the “gothic revival” theme I was aiming for. So I just got over it, Blake thought they were a blast though and helped me place all the spiders in them. Then shortly after I took pictures, took all the spiders out…soo ya know! HA! At least I got the shot first! She was super cute, she carried around the “spooky clock” to everyone and would say, “MAMA! I need to show them my spooky things!”, then push the button and wait for it to scare them. See what I am saying, holidays are just so much fun and I’m telling you, now that we have Blake they’re even BETTER!
Now, here’s the how to on the DIY black and metal looking pumpkins:
- Matte Black Spray Paint
- Nickel Brush Spray Paint
- Silver Spray Paint
- Pumpkins (in whatever size you want)
- Put down a large piece of plywood or cardboard, whatever you have. I would recommend outside and then lay out all of your pumpkins, flat, right side up.
- Take your spray paint and cover completely in the desired colors. I separated mine into separate sections by colors, so I didn’t have any color mixing!
- Once you’ve completely covered as much as possible from that side, let dry.
- Return and tilt each pumpkin up so you can spray paint the rest of it.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3.
**TIP: Let dry completely or you will lose small chips and pieces off of the pumpkin, revealing the orange!
What is so great about all of these decorations is that I can use them indoors for a fun little Halloween dinner, then move them to the front porch for permanent decorations! So they get double the use!
