I’ve been trying to let Blake help me around the house a little more. I felt like I was constantly telling her, “no this and no that”, that I finally realized alright, you need to let go a little bit. So now instead of automatically saying no, I try to stop myself and think of a way that she can help me. Isn’t it funny how we just get so stuck in a habit that we forget we are even doing it most days?
One thing she really loves helping with is feeding the dogs. The only problem is it turns more into a disaster with the water bowl spilling all over the floor and the food barely in the bowl that I feel like it’s more of a hot mess than anything. So we’ve figured out a system and it’s going well and honestly, it’s the cutest friggin’ thing ever. Now when it’s time to feed them (because she knows the minute I get the bag of Humankind out and put it on the counter it’s time) she grabs the kitchen stool, pushes it up against the cabinet and climbs up so she can reach.
We have our little routine and now that she knows what to expect. She is really good about just waiting patiently for her turn. She gets to stir the food, so I pour in about a cup for the dogs to share, add the water to rehydrate it and then she gets to grab the spoon from the drawer and stir it together. It’s seriously the little things and I wish that I had realized that sooner, but I am so glad I do now. Every time she stirs she tells me over and over, “Look Mama I stirring!!” and had the cutest accomplished grin on her face. Her happiness seriously just makes me so happy.
Then once she’s done stirring it together we both carefully take the bowl together over to their “spot” and set it down for them to eat. They’re both super good with her, so she generally will sit right there next to the bowl and watch them eat and giggle at all the silly things they do. We consider our pups family and I love watching them play together and bond.
Now about our pups food, we recently switched to Humankind. It’s so good and I feel good about what I’m feeding them too. I mean, since they are completely a part of our family I want to make sure they’re well taken care of! Humankind is a natural, grain-free 100% human quality food for dogs. It’s unlike the vast majority of pet foods, because all ingredients and production processes comply with the highest FDA regulations for human food! The food has rich nutrients and 99.8% of its protein comes from whole food. And I’m a big fan of their clean label, meaning no artificial preservatives or fillers of any kind. You can grab it online and they deliver it straight to your door! Plus, secret (well not really but you know), their 5 pound bag turns into 18 once rehydrated (since you add water) and their 10 into 37 pounds! Crazy right?! More bang for your buck!
So here’s to enjoying the little things and soaking it all in.
