I LOVE to travel, don’t get me wrong I am a serious anxious traveler, but just anxious in general. However, it’s good for me to prove to myself that I can do hard things. I also love going fun places and seeing fun things, especially as a family. For me, a trip is so much more fun when I have my husband and Blake with! They just calm my anxiety a little more and I just want to be able to experience all the fun that this world has to offer with the two people that I love the absolute most.

So we’ve made some goals, some plans to see and visit fun places the next few years before Blake starts kindergarten (which I don’t want to talk about). BUT obviously, we have to be smart about things. We aren’t made of money, as much as I wish, so we’ve figured out some tips and tricks to the trade. One – driving, we don’t mind driving and obviously it’s generally cheaper, so any place that we can handle driving to with a toddler, we will choose that route! When flying is in order, our next plan kicks in, which is the one I’ll talk about the most. Credit card points. Now, credit cards can actually be used for great things if you do it wisely. That’s not the point of this post, so I won’t get into that — but we use ours for just our everyday spending to earn points towards traveling, whether it be for airlines, hotels or cash back! If you look at CreditCards.com you can actually read a lot more on everything and figure out the best card for you and the perks you’re looking for through their innovative tools, experiences and advice.

For us though this has been great though, especially because I travel quite a bit for events and blog related things, so as I earn points, I earn free rewards or money back. For example, I have earned lots of miles for airlines, which has given us opportunities to fly essentially “for free” and I’ve even earned rental car days and hotel stays. Sometimes, I can even earn cash back on my stays as well. So if I stay at a hotel and they work with them, it essentially wipes away a portion of that cost. It’s pretty awesome! Like I said, CreditCard.com definitely has the best information to find exactly what kind of rewards you’re looking for. Their goal is to help people seize greater opportunity through smarter spending so they can really break things down in the category you’re most interested in taking advantage of.

As for the cards we use, we have a couple of different ones that do different things – one is directly Airline related so we earn points that way and we took advantage of a promotion they were running so that we could get even more miles. Whereas our other one is great for hotel stays and earning cash back on purchases like gas, hotels and food! You just have to research a little and dive into it. I’ll tell you what though — I was hesitant (mainly because I just didn’t have a ton of time to figure it out), but it’s easy to figure out with CreditCard.com and once you do it’s super beneficial because you get rewarded for spending. 😉 Ain’t too shabby, eh?

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of CLEVER and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

My husband and I have gotten really into benefiting from cc rewards…My husband has done TONS of research and has pretty much rocked our finances and made it possible for us to travel for free as well.
The important part is to not increase your spending, even though you want to get all the rewards. He’s managed to figure out how to even pay our student loans with our CC, so we get money back from our usual account withdrawals. Such a great system ID you use it properly!
