SO let’s just get real here for a minute, Marcus and I lack in the “friends” department. Most weekend nights I find us hanging out with ourselves, watching reruns of the Office and you know, being lazy. Really, what else would you do on the weekends after the baby goes down for the night? Well…we’ve been trying to make an effort to get out, make friends, hang out with the friends we do have and just well, live a little. Obviously easier said than done and well our friends probably think I’m crazy because when I host things, I go all out. It’s just my personality, it’s what I do and it’s something I enjoy doing. I love setting things up cute, getting fun things to eat and well, making a mini party of it even if there’s only four of us there. HA! I’m that person, go ahead and judge me. I mean honestly, I judge myself most days. 😉
So we’ve set up this game plan: a couple’s night twice a month. Honestly it’s fine with the kids there too or like every other one, we try to get a sitter and make it more of an “adult” night. I’m totally game for hosting really, all of them because you know — psycho party planner, BUT we try and split it up, take turns, you know. Well, since we did our BBQ a few weeks ago and then a game night this past weekend I have had several of y’all ask how I plan these, how I make them go down, ideas to keep things fun, you know all that. So I figured I would show it in a blog post and share deets on the game we played this past weekend.
The must haves: FOOD. Seriously, just make sure you have a lot of food and you should be fine. Guac especially, you can never go wrong with guac and chips.
The flow: Yeah, I just said that it’s fine. I think honestly, the more relaxed the occasion is, the more fun it is for everyone. We like to just talk the whole time, you know mainly us girls and then the guys do their thing, then we all play a game at the end or whatever. Just keep things casual!
Activities: When kids are included, we generally go for a backyard something or other, pool, etc. When the kids are with a sitter, we pull out all the games or just sit and talk because you know, holy cow — you don’t have a toddler clinging to your leg. 😉
A current favorite game — Codenames. We actually played this game at Marcus’ parent’s house all last summer while his siblings were visiting and it was a friggin’ blast. Well…now they have the “adult” version. HA! It’s more of “mature” content, or you know..immature depending on your husband. 😉 Seriously though, I swear you say the word “buttcheek” or you know…whatever 😉 and all of a sudden my husband is 10 years old again. It’s actually really fun though. We played with my sister and her husband this past week and if I’m being honest, I may have turned in an immature boy too. It’s fine. Judge me. You can just grab it at any North America Target or Target.com. It actually was most recently nominated for the prestigious Spiel des Jahres and the won the Origins Awards for Game of the Year, Best Family Game and Fan Favorite. And honestly, it would probably be perfect for a Bachelor/Bachelorette party too or you know…just for parent’s that don’t get out much too. AKA: us.
It’s fun to have these little “Couple Night Outs” though. The reality is sometimes it’s just nice to have adult conversation and get a couple hour break. Trust me, after my Target experience today of Blake screaming down all the aisles and head butting me in the ear, I could go for a couple of hours of game night and adult conversation. Tell me I’m not the only one who feels like they can’t take their toddler in public currently? *Face Palm*
Anyways, since we’re gonna make this Couples Night thing, well, a thing now — hit me with your favorites y’all do with friends and family!
