I’m all about a good piece of artwork for my home and I’ve been asked by several of y’all where I get my art and how I choose pieces. So here I am! I get a majority of my art from Minted — I love them because you can get totally customizable but keep it simple and easy at the same time. As far as choosing a piece, it definitely gets tricky doing that. I start by measuring the space where it’s going to see how big or small it needs to be then, I dream about what I want that particular area to look like and what colors are going to flow well there. I have this tendency to pick neutrals, so you can most likely always guess that my art will have a lot of neutral colors in it, it’s just what goes well with my home.
If I am working on an area where I’ll be stacking art or featuring more than about two pieces, I generally will cut out butcher paper in the sizes I’m thinking and use them as examples to get a feel for what it’s going to look like with that many pictures in that area. You can see what I’m talking about, here and check out how my fireplace mantel turned out when I used that method, here.
My biggest advice would be, one if you like neutrals — don’t go outside of your comfort zone, in my opinion you can never have too many neutrals! If you’re looking for a pop of color, start small and simple. Mainly, the best advice I can give is stay within your comfort zone. You can go a little outside of it, but I’ve found when I’ve tried to go too “wild” for my taste that I end up hating the piece and have to start all over.
Anyways, today is the perfect day to chat about this anyways because well, Minted (you know where I get a huge chunk of my artwork) is having their 10 year Anniversary sale and everything is on mega sale, which means you can load up on all the artwork you’ve been dreaming of! Here’s a few of my favorites in a few categories:
