Since it’s been well to say the least, COLD here with a whole lot of snow, we’ve been trying to stay indoors as much as possible! So today we did something fun because I feel like most of our Saturdays have been spent with a whole lot of me working, housework and everything else that well, isn’t fun. This morning I decided enough was enough and well, we were going to have the best fun filled family day ever! First on our list, snuggles, matching PJs and all the playing. Most days we’re in such a rush that I forget to just let Blake be a kid, you know just play with her toys and have all the fun. So we did just that. She played for a good two hours while Marcus and I watched and played with her. I’ve never been so happy playing with baby toys in my life. It’s funny how your perspective just changes when you’re a parent and the littlest things like baby dolls and Elmo toys make your heart so happy.
Eventually even Blake got a little tired of all the toys and well most of that was probably because it was lunch time, so I decided–living room picnic it was. I mean, I went all out. While Marcus and Blake cleaned up, I grabbed our Arctic Zone Coolers (that we usually use for roadtrips and outdoor picnics) and I filled it with chips, sandwich making stuff, berries and of course, Dr. Pepper (I mean, did you really think I was going to forget that?). Marcus laid out a big soft blanket and brought Blake over and then I brought our picnic coolers. It was seriously so much fun. Like honestly, I don’t think I’ve had that much fun in a while. Blake grabbed everything out of the Arctic Zone coolers, you know–making a mess ;), I made sandwiches, we watched Elmo, Blake snuggled up next to us and the pups tried to help us eat every last bite. Blake picked out all the berries, because well…that’s about all she will eat these days (at least it’s healthy, right? ;)) and she danced around to the Elmo songs. We did have a little bit of a disaster because well…not everything is going to go perfect. The precious Dr. Pepper spilled everywhere in the cooler and well…our once delicious bread, was turned into soggy DP bread…but hey! It was actually easy to clean because it was in the cooler and well, in case you weren’t aware; one, they’re the best coolers ever and two, they wash right out. We moved that cooler aside and continued with our playing for a little bit longer. Blake climbed in the (not filled with Dr. Pepper) cooler, played “peek-a-boo”, we jumped around and then she helped me clean up when we were all done.
Eventually nap time came around, Blake went down like a champ, probably because we had been playing hard all day. Ha! Then Marcus and I cleaned up the rest, which was really easy because well we were in our living room. HA! But also because all we had to do was wipe the coolers out, put the food away and store the coolers until next time. They’re really nice to have because they just collapse and fit in a small spot in our garage until we’re ready to use them again. In fact, I actually keep this one (the trunk organizer), in my car because it’s perfect to store water bottles and snacks for when you know–you have a baby having a mega meltdown and a granola bar and water save the day 😉 Not that, that’s ever happened to me….There’s a cooler in the middle and storage on the side, so I usually put an extra package of diapers in there, snacks and blankets on the other side! It’s perfect for an emergency or just on the go.
Moral of this story, spend all the time possible with your sweet little families because it can give you that extra little push and happiness you need. I’m slowly but surely learning how important it is to make that dedicated time amongst our busy schedule, everyday. It’s important for Blake and it’s important for Marcus and I. Family is everything and well, sometimes we just need that little reminder. 😉 So here’s to all the living room picnics by the fire, snuggles and spilled Dr. Pepper.
