One question that I get asked all the time is how I manage stress well? Honestly the answer to the question is, I don’t. I don’t handle stress well at all and if you’re a Mom–you get this–I’m stressed probably 90% of the day about something. Whether I’m worried about my baby, trying to balance everything or just attempting to get some work done, I am usually stressing myself out. The last couple of months my stress level has been through the roof. As you know I’ve been working on A Positively Baby Shower, some other fun projects and two other big events–all while being a full time Mom to my cute (VERY active) 15 month old. So long story short, I’ve been a mess, running on little sleep and crying often, but hey it’s life!
The daily grind alone is stressful for Moms in general whether you’re working or not. I mean listening to a baby/toddler/whomever cry for more than 10 minutes will make your stress level go from 0 to 100 real quick. Same with a messy house, a to-do list 2 miles long, all of the daily activities are generally VERY stressful. Plus, as women and as Moms I think we make it even worse on ourselves. We want things to be perfect, we want to be doing the best we can and we want everything to be in order. Unfortunately that’s not real life. SO get that Pinterest perfect house image out of your head and accept your sink full of dishes and baby toys everywhere. 😉
However, there are a few things I’ve done that helped and since I get asked this question so often I figured let’s share them with the company that makes a couple of the products I use. SO here I am. Let’s talk stress (*insert eye roll*).
Rescue makes a whole bunch of really fabulous stress products–honestly, I have used them and tried them and they work great. There are two in particular though that I use daily and love, so I think you should know about them too.
Product #1: Rescue Plus : Sleep // It’s a gummy with Melatonin, doesn’t contain preservatives and is a non-habit forming. You chew them completely about 30 minutes before bed and I’m not even kidding when I tell you that I have felt so much more relaxed waking up each morning since starting them. I don’t take these every night, but 3-4 times a week so a little extra good night sleep. Mornings are my worst because I stress about what I have to do for that day, have to get the babe up and ready and the husband out the door. So these have been really good for me.
Product #2: Rescue Pastilles // OKAY these y’all are literally game changing! I keep them in my purse and pop one in when I feel completely overwhelmed. They’re my instant stress reliever candy 😉 Seriously though, they do taste really good and they’re a quick fix. They’re not an everyday thing, but great for really hard days!
Tips and Tricks:
One thing that I have just recently really started focusing on is working out. Not even to be in shape (I mean, that’s nice too!), but as a stress reliever. I feel like a million bucks after walking/running/doing yoga, whatever for 20-30 minutes. My mind is clear, my body feels good and well–endorphins people. Endorphins make you happy (and happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.) ;). Gotta love Legally Blonde–though she’s right. The second thing that has been game changing for me is a night routine. Not your typical-brush your teeth, go to bed routine, but a real routine. I do all that, but then I take 5 minutes to read my scriptures, write something down, whatever–something to clear my mind and bring everything together before I go to sleep. Then, I hang out with the husband for a few minutes (no phones) and then I go to bed. It’s not a long thing, but it’s perfect and gives me a little winding down time. Finally, the third thing that has helped is accepting the unrealistic. You’re house is not always going to be clean, you’re probably going to cry a few times a week and well–life is hard, Motherhood is hard. Just go with it. If you’re getting stressed about a messy house, clean up for a few minutes and then go outside. Get away from it and just accept it.
Stress is real and it’s hard. So these tips and tricks are life changing and I mean that–there’s no point in living your life being stressed all the time!
