Traditions are really important to me. I grew up with so many that were passed on from generation to generation and loved it. They bring meaning to events, holidays and special days and even better, they bring a family closer together. Since having Blake it’s been especially fun to continue those same traditions plus add in our own new ones. Last year, even though Blake was still kicking around in my belly, I started an Easter tradition.
The tradition is each year, the Easter Bunny leaves behind a friend, his “right hand man”, that he wants to share with Blake. A little stuffed bunny, to be a pal to Blake throughout the year until the Easter Bunny comes again. But the story and the tradition is, the Easter Bunny wants Blake to share. So next Easter the night before, she has to help choose someone to give that bunny to; a child in need, a family member, whoever she sees fit as a good buddy to take care of that bunny. Then Easter Day she will receive a new one, that she will get to play with and “be friends” with until the next year and so on and so forth. You might ask why? And my thoughts are this, when I think back to family traditions I remember a lot about service that we did for others. My Mom did such a great job at incorporating compassion and giving into each tradition and I want that to stay alive. I want Blake to learn exactly that. No, I’m not perfect–far from it–but this is my little “parent” way to introduce the concept of sharing and helping now. So while we get to celebrate Easter and receive little baskets full of goodies, there’s still a little reminder of service and sharing there.
She’s too young now to really understand it, but it’s never too early to start, right? Plus, a tradition is a tradition! So last year’s bunny that she got while in my belly is going to a friend who is about to have a baby. Then next year I hope she can help me choose a little more, though maybe not completely. However as she gets older she’ll understand the concept and I think it will be a fun little tradition for us as a family.
This year’s bunny is from, Bunnies by the Bay. I love it for several reasons, she comes complete with a cute little outfit and a name. I chose the bunny, Dollie for Blake, you can see and learn more about her, here. She’s the cutest, little softest and most snuggly bunny you’ve ever seen. I KNOW Blake will love her. She loves cuddling up with soft stuffed animals, plus she shoves them in her face (as a little sign of affection-it’s the cutest!) and this is just that, but even better!
At Bunnies by the Bay their focus is on creating delightfully endearing gifts for little ones, like Blake and embarking on their first year of life. It can be used as a cherished heirloom or a gift to pass on. My favorite though, is it comes with a gorgeous box that you better believe I’ll be using over and over again each year.
Tonight and tomorrow you can grab 20% off with the code, “BUNNY20“.
