We have 8 ways for you to spice up that rental home of yours!
Pictures can literally turn an ordinary white wall into something spectacular. Not to mention, all while adding your own personal touch to your home, making it more you. However, for all you renters out there, you know that’s not exactly the easiest thing in the world. The worst part about putting pictures up in a rental is the fact that when you move in a year or two, you’re going to have nail holes everywhere, and your landlord is most likely going to make you pay for it. Well, just incase you didn’t know, Home Depot color matches paint–which means if you don’t have the original can of paint your home came with somewhere in the garage, Home Depot can help and all you need is the sample container of paint which is around $5. Boom. Grab that paint & some wall putty to fill those holes (again way inexpensive) and you have yourself an easy solution and no longer an excuse not to hang pictures.
Here’s an example of my favorite arrangement in my home:
This is something not a lot of people think about, but curtains can make a HUGE difference. I’m talking boring to spectacular in a matter of five seconds. Let me just show you:
3. Color it up
Add pops of color to your home. Neutrals are amazing, and trust me, I LIVE for neutrals–but adding little pops of color can not only brighten up your home making it more inviting, but also increase your mood, making you more happy. The body and mind LOVES color, and your home does too.
Here’s an example of how to add pops of color into your bedding:
This is my absolute favorite part about moving, ACCESSORIZING! Kind of like you would accessorize an outfit, but in your home. Add plants, more pictures, sayings, signs, candles–the possibilities are endless. Need some ideas? Don’t you fret, we’ve got your back:
Turn that boring sad colored carpet or hard wood floors into something spectacular, while opening up a room and making it feel a little more energetic. But with rugs, you have to be careful to get the right size! Here’s a sizing chart you can use, here.

Remember that trick I told you back with hanging pictures and filling nail holes?! Works the same with screw holes, which means shelves are obviously a must! Shelving is the perfect way to use those accessories on display and add a more hom-ey feel! You can grab pretty cheap shelves anywhere! My favorite is IKEA, I usually just buy the white shelves because they’re cheapest and then paint them if I want them a different color! And here’s another trick to hanging shelves! Not sure where to hang them?! Use blue painter’s tape to outline where they would go for an example of what it would look like!
This is a hard one, especially for me! I’m a bit of a hoarder, I just want to keep everything..oops. But here’s a few tricks for you! Organize, organize, organize. My favorite way to organize is with baskets and bins! We have a basket for our throw blankets in our living room, bins in our bathroom shelving unit to keep things separated and organized. This is the easiest and least expensive way to de clutter and organize!
8. Add YOU.
I love this part about decorating, adding touches of us in the home. What’s your style? What’s are your favorite things? Put those into your home! For example, I LOVE antiques, everything vintage and white you can think of! So you better believe I have lots of pops of vintage in my home. So whether you love animal prints, a certain color, animals, or vintage incorporate that into your home! It makes for a more comfortable environment to live and lounge in.
Happy decorating y’all!
