Remember when I posted about The UpSkill Contest a while back? (If you don’t remember, you can see it, here.) WELL they chose five local residents and their projects are underway! SO I got the opportunity to see one of them in action and y’all it was seriously so fun and now I feel like we need to literally redo our entire garage so that’s fine too.
The entire concept of The UpSkill Project is awesome to me. It’s not just a contest where you win a really cool project, but you actually learn the skills to do the project and help make the entire thing come to life. This way these homeowners can turn around and continue to do other projects with their newly learned skills. In fact, an UpSkill teacher was actually telling me about a previous winner who redid his bathroom and fell in love with the skill of tile so much that he went out and bought all the right tools and continued to do all the other areas in his home. How cool is that?!
ANYWAYS, so the sweet family that I covered wanted to redo their garage. They were just a little overwhelmed and over the clutter that was happening in there. I mean, I think we can all relate to that one. Their entire vision was one, declutter and two, organize and you guys – it literally looked like a different garage when I left.
It started like this:
And ended like this:
I was there most of the two days they worked on it and it was so cool to see their reactions go from a little timid and nervous to just in awe with what they had just done. They literally learned the skills (and with help from the awesome Lowe’s team) to build from scratch this incredible storage system for all their bins, hung a hanging rack, built a small workbench for tools and organized all of their miscellaneous items. What I loved the most though was that they made it a family effort – they had all their teenage kids out there helping and learning the skills too!! They went from not knowing and being intimidated to using tools to understanding basic knowledge and using these tools by themselves at the end. It was incredible! Especially being a contractor’s daughter over here – I love seeing things like this, because this is how I grew up!
In the end their vision came to life, their storage bins were organized and labeled, everything was off the ground and you could see the sigh of relief on their faces!
