Something Blake has loved for months now is reading. It’s actually the cutest thing ever. She will quietly look at books (most times) while we drive, in her crib and while sitting in her little baby rocking chair. Every night before bed she will snuggle up next to me and we look at a book together before she drinks her bottle and goes to bed. It’s my favorite part of the day because I get like 20 minutes of uninterrupted time with my baby girl.
Currently she loves any book with animals. She thinks every single animal is a dog, which is fine and it’s pretty dang cute. She will point at each one, say “DAH-GEE” and then a loud “WOOF!” after. I love watching her learn and figure everything out. It’s crazy how fast time goes…I feel like I was just holding her yesterday as a tiny newborn and trying to figure out this whole thing called Motherhood. I mean, let’s be real..I am still trying to figure it out, but I have such a big girl now, 1 year old and growing quickly!
Sometimes it’s hard being a working Mom, in fact these last few weeks it’s hitting closer to home more than ever before. I love my job, I will most likely do it forever (that means y’all are stuck with me. 😉 ) BUT, I love my baby girl more and there are days where I feel like I am missing so much. I just have to remember that I am teaching her a strong work ethic, that I am teaching her good and that it makes those special moments we do have together, even more special. That is why I cherish our night time routine. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to it everyday. Being a Mom in general is VERY hard, trying to balance it all out and figure out how to find time for everything–it’s a struggle, whether you work or stay at home. Quite honestly most days, by the end of the day I’m exhausted…I want to go to bed and currently Blake is VERY active, which makes me even more tired. I have to remember to put things into perspective though. She’s going to remember all the things we did, the routines we had and I want them to be happy memories. Not just memories of us constantly in a rush, constantly trying to get things done and her Mom constantly crying. I mean, those things are going to happen…but I have to slow down at night time for her and for my sake, in fact, for my family’s sake.
Every night we hang out as a family for a little bit, one of us gets her in PJs, makes her a bottle, we play a little bit and then like I said I read a few books with her before she goes down. I want her to remember that special time together and quite honestly, I need it for myself just so that I feel a little bit better about having to work all day. So I did something fun for us, I teamed up with BookRoo to keep reading fun and to keep our little nightly bonding time a MUST.
Bookroo‘s mission is to help kids fall in love with reading. The biggest way they do this is through their monthly children’s book subscription box, where their littlest readers are sent either 3 individually wrapped board books or 2 individually wrapped picture books. Rather than sending classics people are already familiar with, they have an extensive discover and review process so that each month they can send hidden gems. It’s seriously perfect and I mean, each book is WRAPPED! How cute is that? Blake loves opening them and diving right into looking at all the pictures.
I’m so glad we get to do this, it’s just a little something special to look forward to every month with my girl.
AND because I think y’all need to get in on it, I’ve got you a coupon code. Use the code “POSOAKES” to get your third month free on any multi-month subscription!
What sort of things do you do to help create bonding time? How do you balance everything? Tell me in the comments because this Mama needs all the help she can get!
